Natural landscapes in Iceland @Tourism Iceland

Have you ever considered making a tourist trip to Iceland? Its natural landscapes are an undoubted attraction, but the truth is that it is a very expensive destination to travel, which I recognize that it stopped me in its day when I considered that possibility.

Iceland He became a major player on the international scene in early 2010 on the occasion of the eruption of the volcano Eyjafjallajökull, whose ashes put air traffic in Europe in check for months.

At that time it was one of the first countries to have been impacted by the current economic crisis, and it had been signified by its decision not to pay the debt to British banks, in the context of its own real estate bubble.

These difficulties, however, have not stopped tourism. Moreover, in recent years this small island country of just over 300,000 inhabitants, every year has been receiving more tourists, so that by 2015 it is expected to overcome the barrier of one million visitors.

And that the devaluation of the economic crisis since 2008, which made it more accessible for tourists, has now been overcome by an increase in prices that makes it a destination not suitable for all budgets.

In the last year there have been about 15,000 Spanish tourists who have traveled to Iceland, a country that without knowing it, as is my case, seems a very promising destination to enjoy great natural attractions.

But when considering the trip, how to travel to Iceland? On your own or on a trip organized by a travel agency?

Travel to Iceland on your own

If you opt for the first case, you have the possibility in summer, until the beginning of September, to fly directly with the Icelandic airline Icelandair, leaving Barcelona since the beginning of June, and Madrid, since July.

To plan your own trip, the new Iceland travel guide by Lonely Planet, as usual in all its guides, it will be of great help.

Ideally make aring road route which goes around the whole island, which will allow you to reach the most attractive places.

As it should be the case of Vatnajökull National Park, the largest in Europe and where is the largest ice field outside the poles.

Western fjords also promise to be a true natural paradise. Like the fjord Seyöisfjöröur, with large cliffs and waterfalls, or the fjord Borgarfjördur Eystri, where you can see birds, like puffins.

And another place that also seems very promising is the lagoon Jökulsárlón, with a large collection of blue icebergs detached from a glacier, a place that has been the scene of numerous films. Or the waterfall Dettifoss, the one with the highest volume of water in all of Europe.

Of course, on a trip to Iceland you should not miss a swim in the geothermal pools you find. for example in the Lake Mÿvat, north of the island, or near the capital, Reykjavik, in the blue Lagoon.

And in winter, thanks to the effect of the warm Atlantic current, the temperatures will not be very severe.

In addition, you also have the possibility of see the northern lights, with the advantages of appearing very often and about nine o'clock at night (do not wait until dawn) and you will have a temperature of 0º, and not the usual rigor of more than -20º that you find in Lapland.

Travel to Iceland with agency trip

You also have the option to sign up for a trip organized by Iceland by a tourist agency.

That is the case of the company Island Tours, with which you have from an eight-day trip visiting the main attractions of the country (from 2,250 euros), to the great tour of the island that takes place for 12 days (from 3,090 euros), in which an excursion is even made To spot whales.

Or if you prefer, with your help you can configure various route options to suit you in Iceland, with a rental car.

In sum, various options to discover such a special country. In my case, noted in the list of slopes.
