Day 6: YELLOWSTONE - GRAND TETÓN NATIONAL PARK - JACKSON HOLE - SALT LAKE CITY

Wednesday, October 14, 2009

Today we have started the day soon as we have been doing since we started this trip to the West of the USA. We have decided to have breakfast in the rental car in the United States, as we wanted to advance time to arrive at a reasonable time at our Motel 6 in Lehi, past Salt Lake City which is the place we will be staying today.
The initial idea when we started preparing this trip was to dedicate a day to Grand Teton National Park, although in the end it has been impossible due to lack of time, so we have decided to spend only a few hours after crossing Yellowstone, approaching the area of geysers where we were yesterday, until the North entrance of Grand Teton National Park.

Grand Teton National Park

We have to say that this park is impressive, especially the mountain area with the lake at your feet and that we miss not having squeezed a little more planning to have spent a few hours more than not just having to cross it to get there to Jackson hole.

Grand Teton National Park

The Grand Teton National Park is one of the most emblematic places in the Rocky Mountains, a chain of mountains and glaciers in which the maximum altitude of its summits is 4200 meters.
An endless valley that extends under this natural wall where we can meet a multitude of wild animals, where the spirit of the Old West continues to reign.

It is true that our idea was only to cross it, but in the end, with the pleasant impression that we have, we dedicate a few hours more than we initially calculated. As our guide says "Entering Yellowstone through Grand Teton National Park, is like entering paradise through Eden", although we have done it the other way around.

Grand Teton National Park

After enjoying as children with the landscapes of Grand Teton National Park and take more photos than fit on the camera card, more we have set for our next stop of the day, Jackson hole.

Grand Teton National Park

About 1 noon we have reached Jackson hole, an incredible city, full of art galleries, restaurants, bars and shops, in the style of old american west.

Jackson hole

Jakson Hole stretches at the foot of high mountains, at the bottom of a protected valley, where the Snake River loses aggressiveness.
One of the most representative areas of the city is Town square, the city center square that is accessed by passing below arches formed by fallow deer and wapitis.

But do not be scared, they are not the remains of a slaughter los The deer normally fall off the antlers in autumn and you have already deduced where some of them are placed, right?

Town Square in Jackson Hole

After walking around the city center, we went to a Mexican restaurant recommended by the guide, The Merry Piglets Mexican Grill where we have had enough until we can no longer.

Jackson hole

After a coffee table, to lower the food a little, we have been walking through some of the streets of the city of Jackson hole, making some photos of the most emblematic sites of the center of this city that seems taken from a Western movie.

Jackson hole

And here we have seen for the first time the famous flags to cross the road of those that we had read so much and that serve to make clear to all the drivers that the road is being crossed and thus avoid accidents.

About 4 in the afternoon we made our way to Salt lake city, the next stop of the trip, to where we still have 5 hours of travel to go.
We have to think that we are traveling the way in reverse of what we did the first day when we went from San Francisco to Yellowstone, although this time we are doing it with stops and other places.
Upon arriving at Salt Lake City, we decided not to enter, since the traffic was very dense and we were very fair in time.
Tonight we want to rest, which tomorrow touches target at 5 in the morning, with a most interesting day.
As we get closer to Salt Lake City we can't stop admiring its sky. It is sunset and watching the mountains from afar and the amount of planes heading to the airport makes you want to stop and stay here a few hours waiting for the night to arrive.
We arrived at our Motel 6 Lehi at 10 pm and the truth is that it has given us a good impression, the rooms are bigger than we expected and it is very clean.
It is the perfect accommodation, very movie, being in the middle of the road and thus being able to avoid entering the city, with those parkings in front of the rooms.
Now it's time to rest that tomorrow we have a long day of travel to get to Arches, another of the strengths of this trip through the Western United States.
Although we are not going to deceive you, it is difficult not to call any of the visits we have these days “strong point”.
