Day 17: GWALIOR - ORCHHA

Thursday, May 17, 2012

This morning, after having breakfast at the Usha Kiran Palace, at 8 in the morning we have gone to the Gwalior Fort.
The truth is that after seeing so many Strong in this trip to india, it is not that we want this visit too much, but only to see the Jain sculptures that are on the way up Gwalior Fort... we think it will be worth it !! We have seen them in several images and they have already left us impressed.
We arrived in just over 15 minutes and the first stop we make is in front of these sculptures.
Just up the stairs, the first thing that comes to mind is the visit to Abu Simbel that we did a few years ago, saving the distances, is something "like" ...

We were amazed with the carvings made directly in the stone of Gwalior.

It is amazing how the sculptures blend with the landscape, being at some point difficult to distinguish them.

We are in this area for more than 30 minutes and then we go to the Gwalior Fort.
There we pay 200 rupees per person and seeing that it is already hot, we load ourselves with the cameras and water bottles as essential “weapons” for the tour.
East Gwalior Fort He has stood out for us because of the blue inlays that are detailed in many places. They make it the only one that is marked by its colors. It is really a very nice sight to see the fort perfectly embedded in the landscape.

From here we go to the Sahastrabahu Temple, where the same entrance of the Gwalior Fort.
Here, we don't know very well why, the temples we visited last year in Solo in Indonesia come to mind.
We are not too long, but enough to see them calmly and not roast of heat in the attempt.

Before we left, we stopped for a moment in a Sikh Temple in the area to take some pictures.
Another interesting option to visit Gwalior and know its history is to book this guided tour in Spanish from Agra.

From here we decided to leave for Orchha, but before, we stopped down on the other side of the road from where other Jain sculptures are also seen.

Gwalior

The trip from Gwalior to Orchha It becomes very heavy. The road is not bad, it is one of the worst we have seen in India!! We do not understand very well how it can be that all roads of India are under construction We have not seen one that is well. In the end we have to take it half as a joke, because if we were not able we would walk away 🙂
After so many days doing long journeys by car and with these roads, we began to notice the fatigue.
In the end we arrived at the Amar Mahal hotel in Orchha at 1 noon, very hungry, something that already shows us that we are quite recovered 🙂
I still don't want to take too much risk, so I eat a sandwich and Roger a pasta dish. This plus a water and a lemonade for 500 rupees.
It may seem that we are too cautious, but the truth is that for the days we have left, we do not want to go through the same thing that we have already happened ... especially me!
After lunch, we rest for a while in the room until 5.30 we go out again to go around the town of Orchha.
We have stayed with Om that we will not see each other until the next day. This is small and we feel like doing everything walking.
The first thing we do is go to the Chhatris and the cenotaphs that we have next to the Hotel de Orchha.
It's still hot and the air that runs is at least 50 degrees! And I do not exaggerate !!
We are surprised by the views that we are seeing, we were not going to find such a quiet, clean and charming town in this part of India.

Here we are more than 45 minutes, getting on dirt roads, trying to find the best perspectives.
Suddenly we realize that there are many vultures that we had not seen before.

After this, we go to the village. Orchha It is quite small, we could almost say that there are 2 streets and a square.
But you breathe tranquility and life at the same time.
We are going through it for more than an hour and we have to say that we feel very well here.
