Day 14: JAIPUR

Monday, May 14, 2012

Today I got up a little touched, it is clear that medicines can not work miracles, but just thinking that today we will know the famous Palace of the Winds and Amber Fort, make me forget my stomach.
We have gone down to breakfast at the lounge of the Umaid Mahal - Heritage Style Hotel and it seems that after getting something in my stomach I will be quite well again, so without thinking twice we have gone straight to look for Mahendra.
Yesterday we met at 8 in the morning to go to the Amber Fort. It is one of the "top ten" of this trip to india And we don't want to miss it.
Before, almost without realizing it and after passing by car through the doors that lead to the Pink City, we find the famous Palace of the Winds of Jaipur.
The evocative image that I had seen many times in books, becomes a bit contradictory, like everything here.
An interesting option to get to know the most important places in the city and make the excursion to Amber Fort, is to book this visit with a guide in Spanish.

It's very pretty, but I didn't imagine it in the middle of the city of Jaipur, in a not very wide street, surrounded by shops, cables ... maybe it gave me a more romantic image in my mind.
What is not missing is "hook men" so that you go shopping at the surrounding stores. It is noted that it is one of the most tourist sites in the city. And that we go first thing in the morning.

Palace of the Winds in Jaipur

Palace of the Winds

After almost half an hour trying to make a decent photo, without cars, motorcycles, people coming out ... we decided that it is time to leave. With us we took the image that we had seen so many times on paper.

Book the best rated Spanish tours and excursions in Jaipur by travelers:

From here we go straight to the Amber Fort, it takes just over 20 minutes to reach the area where the elephants are caught but before we stop at the foot of the road from where there are stunning views.

We get a little more with the car and get where they are the elephants to climb Amber Fort. Here we begin to be overwhelmed with purchases of all kinds, at any price and in any way.
It catches our attention, as as we approach cities and more tourist spots, this "harassment" grows in an equivalent manner. As we already see Western tourists, it also increases the harassment for sales and after a while a little awkward, we arrive at the area where we pay 960 rupees for climbing in elephant to fort Amber.

At this point we believe that it is our obligation to say that today and we spend many years of this trip and above all, after having traveled and read and reflected on the subject, we are totally against these types of activities and we believe that we should to travel responsibly and always, report this type of abuse with animals. We know that this is something very personal but we hope you understand the kind of atrocities that these animals live for in the end, to be at the service of tourists.

Mahendra acting as photographer at Amber Fort

Once in the enclosure we see that here the student card serves, so we show it and pay 100 rupees per person.
We entered after avoiding the sellers ... and we found very beautiful views.

The visit to Amber Fort It is nice, although it is already quite hot, because there are areas of shade where you can take shelter and rest.

We are just over 1 hour and although we are a little tired from the heat ... we must continue the day!

Amber Fort in Jaipur

It's already past 10 in the morning and now we're going to the Observatory and City Palace area of Jaipur, but first we stopped at a lake, where the Old Palace is.
There we take some pictures, but in the end we have to give up why a child is approaching asking and we have no more strength to say no again ...

Old Palace in Jaipur

Once in the Jantar Mantar Observatory area, we go to the ticket office and also use the student cards, so we pay 50 rupees per person.
The truth is that the site is very good, but there is nowhere to "hide" from the sun, so we make a fairly quick visit without getting too entertained.

Jantar Mantar in Jaipur

Jantar Mantar

It's already after 12 in the morning, so we change some money that we need for this trip to indiaMahendra gets us a very good change and we are going to eat at the Mediterranean Restaurant, which they recommend in the guide and in some forums.
We find it hard to find it and a couple of times they try to trick us into going to another, these Indians know them all !! 🙂
But in the end we find the real one and there we eat a couple of pasta dishes that make us recharge the batteries lost due to the heat we have spent during the morning.
From here we go to the Hotel, because this afternoon we have it complete ... we go shopping !!!
The afternoon has passed and we are at the hotel Jaipur... it is night and we can say that the shopping afternoon has been nothing, we have not found anything we were looking for. Yes, it is true that we look for very specific things in our trips, but we thought we would find them :))
So after walking through several shops on the outskirts of the city and a couple of markets we will have dinner with Mahendra at another of the hotels in the chain where we are staying.
We dined all 3 for just under 1000 rupees. We are compensating the prices of some meals with the others. But without a doubt, everything here is very affordable.
Roger a chicken whip, I a plate of pasta and Mahendra several things that I still don't know what they were ... :)) All washed down with water and beer.
We have a much quieter conversation than when we drive, and that is appreciated.
We can talk about many things, with more details and much more "from you to you" and with closeness.
We gradually explain our life and many of our concerns and really realize that we are very equal in many things, even having such different cultures.
Mahendra tells us that she wants to come to Spain next year, at the 2 car fairs held in Madrid and Barcelona.
We explain a little above what they consist of and above all we recommend that you look for flights to move between cities.
The truth is that it was a very pleasant evening and that we missed after so many days sharing "our daily life".
It's almost 11 at night, so we decided it's time to go to our “rooms” of the Umaid Mahal - Heritage Style Hotel.
We are going to rest that tomorrow awaits another complete day in India
