Day 8: JODHPUR

Tuesday, May 8, 2012

Today we met Mahendra at 8.30 a.m. at the Ajit Bawan Hotel because the Meherangarh Fort of Jodhpur It opens at 9 in the morning and we have nothing scheduled for before that visit.
We have got up a little more or less like these previous days, not too well. We are looking forward to this happening and continue in good health this trip to india!
We go back to breakfast toast with bananas because we don't want to risk getting worse than we already are.
This breakfast is already becoming commonplace since we arrived in Jaisalmer
It took just over 10 minutes to arrive and we already met people queuing at the Meherangarh Fort, yes, we are 5 western tourists, the rest are also, but local.

From the outside the el Meherangarh Fort of Jodhpur It looks impressive, but as we get closer, it still seems so much more.

At 9 we let all the queue in front of us pass and we enter.
As usual in this type of monuments in India, we have to go through a detector arc, which we do not know exactly what it is for, why we whistle at everyone and never look at us. We end up not asking ourselves certain things that we do not understand. Simply ... this is India!!
After paying the 800 rupees for the tickets of the two plus the two cameras, we go straight for the audio guide, which is free and they have recommended it to us.
There we leave the identity card to change it to the exit for the audio guide and we will go through the Meherangarh Fort and its 33 stops.
The first section is just as impressive as the slope to be climbed ... although it is very hot at this time, it becomes bearable listening to the stories that the narrator tells us ...

We go through the el Meherangarh Fort of Jodhpur almost without realizing it. From time to time we go looking for the shadows offered by the cornices and there we rest ...
The truth is that we like this visit very much!

Details in the Fort

Almost in the middle of the route, you reach a kind of balconies / viewpoints from where you can see the city of Jodhpur. The blue city ... It's awesome!
And here as we have been saying at some times since the beginning of this newspaper trip to india, there are no words ... the images are better ...

Details of the Blue City

Although it has cost us to detach ourselves from the balconies, we follow our itinerary through the Meherangarh Fort until the new rooms that the audio guide marks us. And of course ... we continue to be surprised.

After just over 2 hours we finished the visit of the Meherangarh Fort of Jodhpur With a very good feeling and after drinking more than 2 liters of water. This is incredible, we do not know how many degrees we are, but I swear that we went from 40 sure, at 10 in the morning!
From here we go to our next stop which is less than 5 minutes by car, we go to Jaswant Thada. Looking closely, we are not surprised to be called the Jodhpur Taj Mahal and that we haven't seen the Taj Mahal yet.
We pay 60 rupees the 2 and we go inside, this time without any shadow to protect us ...

From here Mahendra recommends us to go to the Umaid Bhawan Palace of Jodhpur. It takes just over 15 minutes to arrive and although we have very good expectations when we arrive ... it is a visit that is not worth it.

Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur

At least we did not like anything ... the luck is that it has been free! 🙂
It is almost 2 in the afternoon, so we return to the hotel to eat our already "friend" trip: sandwich, which at the moment makes us endure the average stomach in conditions to follow the planning we have.
We take advantage of the hotel facilities until 7 pm that we go, as yesterday, to the market of the Clock Tower.
There we are having a good time, doing some shopping and seeing stores ... that we already had that materialistic "monkey" !!
Around 9 we will have dinner at the On the Rocks Restaurant, which is very close to the hotel Jodhpur.
We sat on the terrace, which is very cozy and we ordered rice with chicken, fried vegetables (pakoras) and garlic naan plus 1 water.
The food is very good, the problem is that we are not too hungry and do not want to force ourselves too much.
Almost when we are finishing, suddenly an impressive air rises that drags a lot of sand.
We see how people start to get up and get into a kind of pub-bar next door.
So without thinking twice we do the same and full of sand to the ears ... It turns out that we are in the middle of a sandstorm, something we are told later, which is common here.
We rest for a while inside, we ask for the bill (490 rupees) and seeing that it seems that it has stopped a bit we go to the Hotel Ajit Bawan.
We have a distance of just over 300 meters, but we get lost in sand in that little while. And that we thought he had already stopped!
Now inside the room, we still hear the wind, the light has gone a few times and it has started to rain. Who said fear???
See you tomorrow India :))
