Day 6: GALWAY - KINVARA - CASTLE OF DUNGUAIRE - MOHER CLIFFS - THE BURREN - DOLMEN POULNABRONE - KILFENORA - CASTLE OF BUNRATTY - KILLARNEY

Wednesday, September 7, 2011

Today our alarm clock rang again at 7 in the morning and before going to breakfast at the Lake Lodge Guesthouse and set off towardsMoher cantiffs, we have turned on the computer, as we usually do every day, to see if there is any news and yes we have had it !! Our B and B today has had to close due to an emergency and they give us the option of going to another one that is 200 meters away, paying them the difference.
We have no problem, so we start the morning by sending a confirmation email for today's new hotel, the Ashcroft Bed & Breakfast.

After breakfast we set off to Kinvara our first stop for our trip to ireland Today, we have read that it is one of the most beautiful towns in Ireland and now that we've seen it, we're not going to lie to you. When we have arrived ... it has not attracted our attention at all.
Although it was drizzling, we got out of the car ready to take a walk and so check for ourselves that it is not what we expected and in the end it has been ... we have returned to the car after 15 minutes of turning without finding anything That we got a lot of attention.
But as they always say: to taste the colors!

Kinvara

We have also seen Dunguaire Castle, but having such bad weather did not look like it does in the photos. Of course, it reminded us a lot of Elian Donan in Scotland.

Dunguaire Castle

Before we set off to the Cliffs of Moher, we have met up front with some very characteristic houses of Ireland, white, with thatched roofs, which we had seen in photos and one of them is the cover of the Lonely guide of this country.
Here we find a good group of them and do not miss the opportunity to photograph them.

Ireland details

This done, we set off towards the Cliffs of Moher, we put the destination in the GPS and in about 45 minutes we have planted in the parking lot. Here we have realized that we were wrong in planning today, since the Burren area has skipped it. So when leaving the cliffs of Moher, we will have to retrace our steps if we want to see that area ...
But well, now we are with what we are 🙂
We pay 6 euros per person at the entrance of the parking lot and as soon as we get out of the car we see that the weather is quite bad. We will be lucky if it does not rain. The wind is so strong that there are times when it is hard for us to keep our balance.
If you do not have a car, a good option is to book an excursion to the Cliffs of Moher by bus and with a guide in Spanish from Dublin.
When we reach the walls that have "installed", we discover a landscape that suddenly removes the hiccups, one of the best visits of our travel to Ireland. You can't explain, you have to see it. Over with the bad weather, the landscape is still more overwhelming.

From here we go to the visitor center, which is fully integrated into the landscape, to warm up a bit and do some shopping 🙂

Visitor Center of the Cliffs of Moher

We look at the clock and it is almost 1 noon, so we return to the car with the intention of going a little tour of the Burren area.
We find a large limestone extension of use 300 square kilometers.

The burren

After a short time, it starts to rain heavily and we decided to stop at a viewpoint to eat inside the rental car in Ireland. So we have a good time, until he escapes and we decide that it is time to go in search of the Poulnabrone Dolmen.
It takes us a little less than 15 minutes to arrive and just when we park we find that it starts to drizzle again. But this time we don't think about it too much, we take the umbrella and go looking for it.
The path that takes from the parking takes less than 5 minutes to travel and takes you a bit into the fantastic landscape that hides in this area.
We get caught up with the image in front of us and for a while we admire it without further ado.

When the wind and rain start to tighten we take some more photos and go to the parking lot, but not before taking that last look ...

Poulnabrone Dolmen

One of the last things we have scheduled for today is the visit to the town of Kilfenora, where the famous High Crosses are located.
There we arrived after 40 minutes and parked right in front of the church.
We have to cross a cemetery to reach the area where the crosses are exposed and we just coincide with a group of tourists who follow our heels ... so we can not be quiet for a long time admiring the 4 crosses that we have around us.

After a while in Kilfenora, we left there with the idea of stopping at Bunratty Castle on the way to Killarney.
It takes us a little more than an hour to arrive and just when we have been closed for more than half an hour, so we have to settle for a walk around and take a photo from afar ...

Bunratty Castle

We don't have any visits left, so we're going to Killarney, to our accommodation the Ashcroft Bed & Breakfast, where we arrived after 1 hour and a half.
There we check in our new Killarney hotel and after resting a little we go downtown to enjoy the Irish atmosphere a bit.
The city is very lively and although it is cold and does not stop drizzling, the streets are full.

Killarney streets

Killarney

We stopped for dinner in a killarney restaurant from one of the most commercial streets and after this, almost at 10 at night and as always with a full stomach, we go straight to the room of the Ashcroft Bed & Breakfast.
I think today, especially, it won't take long to fall asleep.
