Since we have returned to Spain on more than one occasion our eyes have been dampened to remember a hot and tasty dish of pad thai. And every time friends and family saw us sunk in nostalgia and asked us what was going on, by answering “I wish I had a Thai pad here”, they were left with a silly face: pad what ?!

So we have the ethical and moral duty of revealing to humanity the secret of the tasty pad thai, and by the way tell you a little about the Thai gastronomy or rather our meals in the land of smiles.

Clarification No. 1: Thai cuisine is ENOOOOORME, so if you want to know in detail names, dishes and ingredients visit this page.

Clarification No. 2: a backpacker's pocket rather than Thai cuisine will open the doors to the fantastic world of noddles, rice & co. But still some whim you can afford, you see, food in general is nothing expensive.

Clarification No. 3: almost everyone asks us “but do you eat in street stalls? In the street bars? ” You are right! And the surprise is that you eat suuuper well: the best meals have been in shabby and cheap places. The secret? Look where the local people eat and throw yourself!

Clarification No. 4: don't trust. Absolutely. Never. If you ask with a sad face "is it spicy ?!" and the answer with an angelic face is: "Very little" do not believe it! I suffered an acute anxiety-panic-autoasochism-depression attack all in 1, due to level 10 of the chili-richter scale of my curry that was NOT spicy. If you see something red or green on the plate, be careful!

Ok let's go to the mess. Thai cuisine is delicious and born from the mixture of its cardinal points: sweet, sour, spicy and salty. So you will notice that in each restaurant table or beach bar that is the 4 magic boats: sugar (sweet), lemon or vinegar (sour), chili (spicy) and fish sauce (salty), which each diner can mix to their Taste to reach the perfection of the dish.

The RICEIt is the basis of the kitchen, practically everything is accompanied with it. Of rice there are a thousand and one types but to simplify it we could say that there are two: the rice of a lifetime (KHAO TOM KUI) and the sticky rice or sticky rice (KHAO NIAO). It is eaten even at breakfast, and I have to admit that it is the best there is and if it is accompanied by omelette mmm!

If rice is the sun of Thailand, the NOODLES they are the moon: if you do not eat one you will probably eat the other! There are many types of noodles: egg, thick, in soups, thin, long, short, rice ... to taste the colors. And you can eat them with the most varied sauces, with seafood, meat, vegetables. It is a huge world. As you know, the pad thai is our favorite, but it is not yet time to reveal the recipe!

You cannot leave Thailand without having tried one of the main courses: CURRY. These pasta-powders contain ingredients such as: turmeric, garlic, coriander, ginger, pepper, chili, chillies, lemongrass, coconut milk, lime, cumin ... There are different varieties, the most typical are yellow, red and green curries. It is not necessary to be a Nobel Prize to intuit that they differ by color, and by their degree of picantosity (picantosity ?!). Yellow is fine for me, red dehydrates me, because of the itching I start to sweat and I lose 5 kg in 3 minutes, and green is one of the things I fear most in the world. Of course, I must admit that my sensitivity to spicy is like that of a woman who looks pretty woman during her period. I am not an exemplary example.

The one I like the most is the Massaman curry, which has a sweet taste thanks to coconut milk. That good!!

Massaman Curry, always present in my dreams!

If I think of Thai food, I can't not think of Koh Rambuttri. And if I think of Koh Rambuttri, I can't not think of SKEWERS. And if I think of the skewers I get hungry that my mother! Pork, veal, chicken, sausages, vegetables, prawns ... Skewers from Thailand are the best in the world! But those of the barbecues, which the fried fried (deep fried) typical of chinatown do not approve!

Long live the skewers at 5 bath! (something like € 12 cent)

In Thailand it is impossible to make a diet: on every street, on every corner, on every sidewalk, there is literally someone who is cooking something delicious. You want sweet, zas: pancake or coconut candy. You feel like salting, zas: freshly made quail eggs, skewers, rice, noodles, curries and mysterious food cubes that smell good. You feel like eating healthy, zas: the best fruit is there.

And if for some rare reason there is no street vendor there is. The 7ELEVEN. The paradise of sweet tooth at all times. You can find dim sum, pao (stuffed pork rolls, eggs, even sweets), rice with meat, potatoes, sweets, sushi ... and the crown star: the sandwiches! Come on, if you want to lose weight, don't go to Thailand!
