Eating cheap in Moscow is easier than it may seem: in the capital of Russia there are many options for cheap and quality restaurants, and today we are going to tell you a few. Mind you, we are not saying that there are offers of food thrown out of price everywhere, in fact in Moscow there are quite a few expensive and expensive restaurants, so as you can see, there is something for everyone. But we are going to recommend those restaurants with affordable menus and a rich cuisine. Here are the 10 restaurants to eat in Moscow (good and cheap).

And if you are eager to discover what awaits you, check out our article of traditional dishes in Russia (pending).

Throughout Moscow you will run into Georgian restaurants They have a very good reputation. The Khinkali Point is a perfect option to try some dishes of that gastronomy, such as kachapuris or the Khinkali (the specialty of this place). We tried the cheese (rich but not remarkable) and the pork and lamb (both VERY rich, spicy and spicy ... delicious!). We also tried a cheese and spinach kachapuri, very tasty. For starters we ordered a cheese plate with mint sauce (cold). Everything came out for about 1100R, including drink, a beer and a herbal lemonade that didn't taste like lemon :-P.

Other Georgian restaurant of the best in Moscow, which was also recommended by my friend Isa (thanks pantoji * - *), is the Kachapuri. There are several locations throughout the city. It is a tad more expensive than the Khinkali, but it is very worthwhile to approach and check if it is really so good! We tried a cheese kachapuri with herbs (very rich), a beef soup with cereals and some salmon khinkalis (yummi!). With a liter and a half bottle of water we pay 1100R (about € 15).

It is not a restaurant, they are rather small fast food that you will see scattered throughout the city and that specialize instuffed baked potatoes! There are veg options but we recommend the salmon ones ... delicious! So if you see a sign on the street that says “Крошка Картошка” do not hesitate to come in and ask for something!

Another place to try dishes from russian food (Y Ukrainian) Good and cheap. You can start with the soup borsch (if you like beets), pelmeni (Russian dumplings) and a main course (the salted wild salmon cake was delicious or that is what I think ... Rober is not at all convinced, try it and you will tell us hehe). In addition the place is curious and authentic: it seems still anchored at the time of the USSR. Average price per person: € 7 approx.

It is a super famous place, but few know its true history: in 1964 the French singer-songwriter Gilbert Bécaud wrote the song "Nathalie" that spoke of a hypothetical guide in Moscow and where "the hot chocolate of Pushkin Coffee" was mentioned. Many French went to Moscow in search of that legendary site ... but it did not exist! The place opened its doors in 1999 and guess! Gilbert Bécaud was invited to sing his song 😉

Contrary to what it may seem, it is not too expensive, especially if you are going to eat and take advantage of the today's menu (two dishes for about € 12, with glass of wine € 17).

We had dinner here for two nights as it is next to the hotel where we stayed and freaked out. It is a restaurant of czech republic food and has beer (blonde and black) delicious and cheap (half a liter for about 150R). We tried veal cheek with black beer, fried pork ear with potatoes and turkey thigh with mashed potatoes. Delicious everything. We pay about € 21 in total. Good service!

Something more expensive but not prohibitive is the Great Café Dr Zhivago, a historic place, with Red Square views. If you want to try it (without spending a pasture) choose the blinis (Russian crepes), which cost about € 6. Even if you don't worry too much: the main courses are around € 8-12. We had read that it was advisable to book, especially if you want to go at rush hour or with groups of friends, and the truth is that when we went (in the middle of August) there was a sign that put something like “mandatory reservation”… we do not know if it is something temporary (for the high season) or new site policy.

It is a simple, style restaurant fast food and frequented by both Russians and tourists. It would be the equivalent of Tim Hortons of Canada. Try the blinis, the famous Russian crepes, although there are other options (from soups to snacks). The prices are very cheap, for about 4-6 € you have crepes and drinks. We caught the chocolate and banana and the condensed milk (we went to breakfast) although the salty ones looked very good. If you ask for a menu in English they give it to you (at least where we went).

The formula of the buffet is widespread in Russia and is very useful for tourists: all you have to do is pick up a tray and fill it with the dishes that we most want. Eye: they are not free buffets, but you go through some showcases and you are taking or ordering the dishes you want. Usually the food is not of an extreme quality (or so it seemed to us) but it does not eat badly, and the price is usually good. Come on, what we recommend is to alternate eating in normal and current restaurants and with these buffet style. Here we recommend a few restaurants-buffets where to eat in Moscow:

It is one of the favorite places for low cost travelers, here you eat well and the prices are very cheap: for about € 6-8 you eat well (starter, main course and drink). Plus: the menu is also in English (and in Spanish!), Something that in Russia is not common and that, obviously, is appreciated. Anyway, it is best to go with your tray (it is a buffet plan but WITHOUT self-service) and indicate what you want to the workers. There are several places, you will recognize them for their pet, a cow. We went to Arabat Street.

Located in the GUM, the famous luxury department store in Moscow, right in the Red Square, the Stolovaya 57 is the typical site that makes you manage on a kicking day. The food is not very elaborate, but the price is good and you don't eat at all badly. Tip: try to go on something weird schedule, it is one of the most frequented restaurants in the center of Moscow and if you go at rush hour you will have to wait in a long line!

This restaurant chain is the one we liked the most on our trip through Russia. In addition to rich and quality food, with options already made such as pasta, wok or salads, the places are super cool. They also have a cafeteria area where you can go to work with laptops or simply make a comfortable desktop. The prices are somewhat higher than the previous ones, but it is definitely worth it

It is perhaps where more variety of dishes we saw (from soups to main, pasta, pizza or desserts). In general, a starter, main course and drink cost about € 6-10. There are a few establishments scattered around Moscow, we went to the one in the Lubyanka Square Shopping Center, in front of the former KGB headquarters. We visit it at noon, but according to what we read, at night, after 21, they make discounts of up to 50%. It is one of the best options to eat cheaply in Moscow.

Tip: it is also a good place to have a snack… order some blinis (crepes) with a tea and that's it 🙂

It is considered one of the best restaurants in the world, so if you want to try their cuisine, book! We did not go but we can not include it, given its fame, in this list ... although obviously it is NOT a restaurant to eat cheap.

Here you have a map with the location of all recommended accommodation in Moscow:

We hope this post is helpful! As you can see ... that Moscow is one of the most expensive cities in the world for tourists, it is simply NOT true. Can it be? Of course, but there are a thousand ways to enjoy the capital of Russia without spending a fortune ... and food is no exception. Do you know more Restaurants where to eat in Moscow well and cheap?
