TIPS FOR TRAVELING TO MILAN (AND NOT FALLING IT)

Elegant and chic, Milan is not only one of the most important cities in Italy, but it is, for all intents and purposes, one of the traveling epicenters of Europe. Around 35 million passengers per year pass through its airports and, although it does not have the label of being the most beautiful city in the country, many of these travelers stay a few days to discover its charms (which on the other hand, are not few! ). If you are one of them and you have planned a visit to the fashion capital, here we leave a few Tips for traveling to Milan and not shit it.

While it is true that with a day in Milan you can know the main points of interest, we always recommend spend about 2-3 days so you have time to find the tip to the city.

Be careful when using transport! You can buy the ticket at kiosks or stations, but to be valid you have to validate it on machines. If the reviewer catches you with a ticket without ringing you will take a fine as a souvenir of your time in Milan.

In general the transport system In Milan it is very good. You can travel by subway, by bus and our favorite: by tram. There are some lines that still retain historic trams super pretty! If you can, get on one.

Another good way (and cheap) to take advantage of your visit is by doing a free tour. Here you can book it online, it lasts 3.5 hours and will take you to explore the main corners of the city center. It is a free tour but remember to leave a good tip to the guide, the truth is that they work hard.

There are a couple of tickets we recommend to book well in advance: the visit to Leonardo's Last Supper, in the convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie (usually sold out quickly), and to the Duomo of Milan and access to the terraces (this more than anything for comfort).

If by chance you can't find a ticket to see the Last Supper, play the card “agency". Yes, many companies have reserved tickets and going to them is the only way to enjoy this masterpiece. For climb to the terraces of the Duomo There are two ways: by stairs (cheaper) and by elevator (more expensive). There are two flights of stairs, the first of 166 steps, the second of another 70. The space is small but not overwhelming and, unless you have mobility problems, it is the way we recommend.

Do not miss the opportunity to enjoy aaperitif in Navigli, the canals of the city, along which some of the places most loved by the Milanese are distributed. Between 18 and 21 you pay about € 10-12 and you will have a drink (cocktail, beer, wine…) and a buffet full of delicacies. The quality, of course, is not the highest, but if you want to eat and live a 100% Italian night you have to try it! I was always going to Spritz, when traveling to Milan for work 😉

But if not ... don't worry: Milan is very well connected by public transport and staying in more "peripheral" neighborhoods is not a big problem. In summer it can get very hot and in winter it is very cold. Of course, we would never go to Milan during the fashion week: the accommodations become (even) more expensive. When is? There are two: autumn / winter between September and October, and spring / summer between February and March.

There is 3 airport in Milan: the one in Malpensa and the one in Linate on the outskirts of the city, and the one in Bergamo, a beautiful city one hour away. U.S We do not recommend taking a trip to Venice of a day since we believe that the ideal is to stay to sleep there at least one night. But if you want to do it yes or yes, do not hire excursions (they will only give you train tickets, much more expensive than normal). You can easily book tickets with Trenitalia or Italotreno. If reservations in advance can leave for € 9.90 each way, and it takes approx 2 hours 15 minutes.

Looking for places with nice panoramic? A good place is the Terrace of the Rinascente, in the Piazza Duomo, on the top floor there is a bar from where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Cathedral (you can go up to take a look without having to consume anything). Although it is not entirely clean: there is a glass that bothers the views, so an alternative is to go to Museum of '900 (€ 10) and after the visit let yourself be dazzled by the views of the last floor. And the third option is the Mc Donald! It is in the same Piazza Duomo and the views from there are also very beautiful.
