PHU QUOC: GOOD MORNING VIETNAM!

After passing through the Cambodian beaches we headed to the border that connects this country with Vietnam, although our first destination is an island that paradoxically faces the coast of Cambodia, in fact during our crab eater at the seashore we could see in the distance the Phu Quoc silhouette, that's what it's called.

Good way to know if you are reaching the border is to see how many casinos per square meter are built ... the complexes that are mounted are really luxurious, with resorts and casinos of category, all so that the Vietnamese (who in their territory are prohibited from game) your dongs are spent a few meters from your country.

In the border crossing We were already preparing a dollar, as usual, for the "border scam." This time you have to pay a vaccination check, or what is the same, fill out a sheet saying that you do not suffer from any rare disease or symptoms, and that you have an international vaccination card. We must recognize that the fucking are ingenious.

We arrive at the port and a fast boat takes us in less than two hours to our island, the largest in Vietnam, to spend the next 3 days there. The size is considerable, they even have an international airport and another under construction, to move we have made a motillo, and thus be able to visit the beaches from south to north. They are practically deserted, some scattered tourist, a stand where they make grilled fish from time to time, although the armies of biting red ants are very numerous! Once they caught me like 15 or 20 ants and until they threw me into the water they did not disengage! If we already said it when we were children, the dangerous ones are those of the devil, the red ones!

At night in the village they ride a whole street with a thousand restaurants on both sides where they show a lot of types of fish and shellfish (even sharks) that you buy by weight and cook you right there. It is not super cheap but it will always cost less than half that in Spain, so for two nights we allow ourselves that luxury. In addition, we tried for the first time the famous Vietnamese rolls, and the tasty soup or PHO.

The Chinese New Year's Eve and we prefer to spend it in a place with more possibilities, lest here the prices begin to rise and rise and there is no way to escape! We take the boat back and a bus that takes us to the ancient capital of Indochina, Saigon, or as it was renamed: Ho Chi Minh City.

By the way, we have lost both cameras and some things in the Ho Chi Minh taxi so we have no photos to show this beautiful island. We will tell.

Transport. How to get to Phu Quoc from Cambodia?

From Kep we hire in direct agency to Phu Quoc. It cost $ 17 and consists of a bus to the border (1h.), The same bus waits on the other side to take you to Ha Tien (45min), from there a taxi to the port, and the one-way boat to the island.

Before arriving a flight attendant asks if you want to hire transportation to your hotel, or to the town, because the ship arrives at the east end, on the other side. If you buy it inside it costs $ 3, if you wait you can negotiate with the driver of the minivan itself. We get it at $ 2, even so it seems excessive.

We rented an automatic motorcycle at GH itself for 125,000 dongs (about $ 6.5)

Accommodation. Where to sleep in Phu Quoc?

We made a reservation via mail at the HIEP PHONG hotel, paying 200,000 dongs a night (about $ 10). It is in the town, we believe it is the best option, in long beach the accommodations can be more expensive and the beach is ugly. In the same street of ours there are another 2 or 3 more. You can ask.
