In this post we talk about our excursion / tour to Mount Fuji from Tokyo.
Count the legend that in a distant time there was a dispute between the goddess of Mount Fuji “Sengen-Sama ”and the god of Mount Hakupor for being the highest mountain in Japan. As they did not agree they claimed the arbitration of Buddha Amitaba who placed some ducts between the tops of the two mountains on which he poured water. The direction it took was towards Mount Fuji, given its smaller size, infuriating the goddess who disagreed. In an attack of jealousy he took a huge stick and released a strong blow against the top of his rival, breaking it and forming 8 smaller peaks, which are the ones seen today. Thus Mount Fuji became the highest mountain in Japan.
Actually Mount Fuji is one of the over one hundred volcanoes in Japan which has been formed by various eruptions throughout history, until reaching the height of 3,667 meters today. It is not a mountain too high and sure there are other prettier ones but the government of Japan struggled to get it named Unesco Heritage three years ago, alluding to his sacred character, his imposing figure and above all for being the symbol of Japan.
What they didn't respect us too much were the clouds, which covered the top almost all day. But we could enjoy wonderful views from the Fifth Station, more than 2,400 meters high, that is, we climbed more than half of the total mountain!
After recovering energies with a delicious typical Japanese food, the tour continued until Hakone, a small population of 13,000 inhabitants famous for its onsen and its beautiful lake. It reminded us a little of Taupo in New Zealand, not in vain they are twin cities. We crossed its neighboring Lake Ashi and climbed by cable car to Mount Komagatake, from where you have incredible views of Mount Fuji, of course, on clear days ... we are looking forward to it! But the place is still beautiful.
When we arrived at our house in Asakusa we could not understand why we were so tired ... or that we had climbed Mount Fuji!
