As an Italian of pure strain (and Spanish lover of Italy) that we are, pouf, you do not know what it has cost us to agree to choose the best 30 things to see and do in Italy. Although one thing is clear: Italy is an absolutely beautiful country, where if you have enough time, you can live thousands of experiences.

But in this post we are going to focus on what we would recommend to someone who only has the opportunity to travel there once in a lifetime. So without further ado here goes The best of Italy:

1. Fall in love with Venice, the most romantic city in Italy and unique in the world (no matter how much you see that of “La Venecia de X”, “La Venecia Y”), where you can freak out with the Byzantine architecture of the Basilica of San Marco, cross bridges and Channels, cramming from Cicchetti and much more.

2. We have a special affection for Padua, that was where we had a wonderful time and where we met. But being objective, it is a beautiful city. Be sure to visit the Basilica of the Saint, Prato della Valle and try the Aperol spritz in one of its terraces ... chin, chin!

3. The Dolomites They are the perfect place if you're crazy about the mountains, lakes and authentic villages. We recommend you make a road trip of about 4 days to discover all its charms. Just don't forget to visit the church of San Giovanni in Ranui and Lake Braies. And on top ... it eats super well!

4. Verona It is an ideal stop if you travel through the Veneto region. The city of Romeo and Juliet has one of the best preserved Roman amphitheaters in the world, the Arena. This is its great protagonist, but the city has a lot of surprises for the traveler.

5. The goat throws into the bush and I throw for my house: the Friuli Venezia Giulia region! It is one of the most unknown areas of Italy but I guarantee it is a pass: we have beaches, hiking trails, mountain villages and also beautiful cities like Trieste. If you want to see a different and original Italy, come to my house 😉

6. How good you eat in Bologna, one of the gastronomic capitals of Italy! Its airport is one of the best communicated with Spain, so if you find a cheap flight do not think about it. There are many things to do in this city of Emilia Romagna.

7. Milan It does not have much good reputation among travelers (it is difficult to stand out in a country where Rome, Florence and Venice are located), but believe us if we tell you that it is one of the most cosmopolitan and interesting cities in Europe. And if you like fashion, it's your place! In addition, for us, the Duomo of Milan is the most beautiful cathedral in Italy.

8. Surrounded by the Alps, Turin It is another city quite unknown and yet knows how to fall in love with all who visit it. It has an elegant historical center, where a building stands out: the Mole Antonelliana. Essential.

9. The Lake Como It is, without doubt, the most famous and visited lake in Belpaese. And it doesn't surprise us. In these articles we tell you how to fully enjoy a trip to Lake Como and what are the most beautiful villages of Lake Como.

10. Another of the lakes that usually hook the visitor is the Lake Garda. Less frequented than the previous one but also very charming. His great jewel? The town of Sirmione.

11. A trip to Italy without going throughFlorence It would be a real crime. It is the city of art and good food. Piazza della Signoria, the Duomo or the views from Piazzale Michelangelo are some of its best places, even if you go wherever you go you only have one risk: suffer from Stendhal syndrome.

12. We continue in Tuscany and take you to Siena, another great jewel of the region. Piazza del Campo is one of the most curious in the whole country and the Duomo is definitely worth a visit.

13. And what about Pisa and of its Leaning Tower? But do not fall into the error of believing that you are only going to find a crooked tower, because there is so much more!

14. Although for us it is best to make a roadtrip through Tuscany, full of green, yellow countryside, with cypresses and colorful flowers and enchanted villages (among which are San Gimignano, the Manhattan Mendieval, and Pitigliano, the Italian Jerusalem). All the info of Tuscany here.

15. Another wonderful area for a roadtrip is the Umbria region: Perugia, Asis, Gubbio and Spoleto are just some of the essential stops in this part, almost unknown, of Italy.

16. Same speech for the Marche region. And we have to admit that it is unknown to us too (hopefully we can go soon). Meanwhile we leave you a post from Sara, another Italian based in Spain who was born right there.

17. This is the great year of Cinque Terre, you just need to open Instagram to know. And yes, it is full of tourists, but it is still one of the most beautiful destinations in Italy. 5 small villages full of colorful houses, looking unperturbed and for years at the Ligurian Sea.

18. But first make sure you go through Genova, the place of origin of Columbus and what was one of the great commercial powers of the Mediterranean. Take the famous stamp in Boccadasse, or from the viewpoint of Spianata Castelletto, visit the Duomo of Genoa and of course, go through its port.

19. Uff, what about Rome in two lines? That it was not built in two days and that a whole life will not be enough to discover it. But, even if it's only 3 days, the eternal city will fall in love forever.

20. Italy is not just a set of cities full of art, my country has sites that amaze by its nature. It is the case of Gran Sasso Park, in Abruzzo. If you love nature, trekking and breathing fresh air, without stress ... look no further!

21. The Amalfi Coast It is a stretch of coastline that the whole world envies us: its small villages hanging over the Mediterranean are a difficult picture to forget. If you can, dedicate it at least 3 days of time.

22. In Italy we say: “Vedi Napoli e muori” (See Naples and you die) and the capital of Campania is so beautiful and authentic that it leaves no one indifferent. And then he has the best pizza in Italy, the one they prepare at the Antica Pizzeria da Michele. Here we tell you everything you can see and do in Naples.

23. Naples has several beautiful islands, but Capri and Procida They take the palm of the prettiest. The first for being elegant, chic, almost from another time, and the second for having an authentic atmosphere, thanks to its houses of thousands of colors and the fishermen who take care of their boats as if they were their own children (hopefully not change!).

24. Not far from there you can make a excursion to Pompeii. The place where time stood still 2,000 years ago hopes not to spend another 2,000 for you to visit! In this post we tell you everything you need to know to visit this archaeological treasure.

25. It is very famous among Italians, but foreigners have not yet discovered the charms of Heel of Italy: Apulia. One of the most beautiful villages in southern Italy, Polignano a Mare, Is here. But he's not the only one: Alberobello It is famous for its "trulli" or tour the region of The Salento, to enjoy beaches with crystal clear waters (not by chance they are known as "the Maldives of Italy").

26. Matera It is one of those places that are kept as a treasure, avoiding attracting attention knowing its extraordinary charm. World Heritage of Humanity, its great attraction is its "sassi", some caves that were used as homes in the 50s. The city seems entirely dug into the rock. Oh, and it will be the European capital of culture in 2019.

27. We continue to discover quite little known regions, such as Calabria. For me, you can't leave without visiting Stumble, a beach resort so beautiful that it seems incredible that it is so unknown.

28. Sicily It is in our top 10 staff of Italian destinations. We know very little and hope to remedy it soon (update: done!). Go up to Etnawander around Palermo, to visit Taormina, sunbathe on the Scale of the Turks or marvel at him Valley of the Temples They are just some of the things to do in this region. Honestly, it's the best of Italy.

29. Another spectacular destination, found along the coasts of Sicily, are the Aeolian Islands. The indomitable nature merges with small fishing villages. Relax and adventure in same doses.

30. Although if you are looking for beaches,Sardinia It is THE destiny. Although it would be very basic to say that there are coasts here: the center of the island is super interesting and also has cities like Alguero Y Cagliari Very, very pretty. Yes, the La Pelosa beach She is the great protagonist of Sardinia and is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world!
